This is a very good article by Marcin Wichary, Designer and typographer at Medium – aresluna.org … it’s important to anyone who writes code for the web — the practical guide to why laying out type never quite does what you want You’re a front-end engineer… but at this very moment, you’re also a typesetter. It’s good work. Satisfying work. (As of a few decades ago, you don’t even have to worry much about lead poisoning.) There’s something mathematically, geometrically comforting and peaceful about filling boxes. Computers are good at rectangles. This should be easy.But you’re about to discover, or perhaps already discovered, that this is no smooth sailing. Setting type can be tricky.
