Photoshop Madness: Add A Realistic Old Photo Effect To Any Photo with Photoshop

OH NO … time for some Photoshop Madness — and what we usually get from every Tom, Dick and Harriet online is how to make your old, broken and torn photos retouched to look like new. How boring is that. In fact, we’ve had a half-dozen of these tutorials in this site over the years! Well, thanks to Annabelle Yeoh, here’s a twist! She’s going to show you how to take a perfectly excellent modern day photo, and make it look like it was shot in the teens, and saved in grandma’s old trunk up in the attic.

60-Seconds #336 : You Are Annoying Your Customers? Do you know why?

Gavin Jocious has written an article that really struck a note with me. I remember back in 2004, O’Reilly Media came out with a series of books about things that annoy people about technology. They invited people to send in their annoyances for the next book. They had so many coming in they published a whole series of books. But in Gavin’s article “You Are Annoying Your Customers… ” he asks “Do you know why?

Marketing Update : ad strategies, food trends, direct mail, making money and more

We talk about marketing, pr and advertising and while they are closely related, they each serve a distinctive function. Both pr and advertising come under the marketing banner — and if your marketing strategy is on point, then the other two will follow. But as Leo Burnet once said, advertising without a marketing plan is empty space. Maybe that’s true, but as the world becomes more complicated, marketing is getting more and more difficult. This week’s update hopes to shed some light on your marketing strategy :
* Unblock Those Ads With These Five Compelling Advertising Strategies
* 8 Food Marketing Trends You Need to Know About Right Now
* How to increase customers and business via direct mail
* Tomorrow’s trends in leading edge creativity today

5 Signs That It’s Time to Update Your Website

If your website is currently helping your company, you might not think that it needs to be updated. However, a website that has not met the sales or branding goals that your company has established should be updated. While it might not need an entire redesign, a website refresh could help to bring your business better results.

When you talk about media, of course you could be talking about TV, radio, newspapers or other traditional forms of mass communications — but today, more and more of these conversations are built around social media. Ad Blockers : ad poison, skip button, pernicious Facebook, Adblock, WSJ, reader blocking

Isn’t it funny that our profession is built so heavily on advertising yet I’ve become such a staunch advocate against it. There’s a point at which advertising has become divisive and sinister. The advertising industry in their unquenchable thirst for revenue has given the store away and are making too much money to ever become honorable again.

A Sad day for P22

I love revisiting fonts from past Fonts fests. I really liked the the Declaration font, but when I returned for a revisit — the page is gone! Then I looked systematically for the destintations of P22 Fonts links, to no avail. It’s a shame when so many links are broken in the site — all caused by the webmasters who don’t adhere to the cardinal rule of the web : never break a link. Sad Face.

You’re invited to visit our Fonts Fest from 10 Years ago, but don’t be surprised to find everyone’s links broken (but ours)

The end of the Publishers’ Warehouse

The Publishers’ Warehouse was established in 1989 to house hoards of free stuff, public domain, and even commercial software that we developed for our readers. I always provided a disk of freebies to my workshop attendees through the 1990s, and our annual holiday freebies. It was fun, and everyone always enjoyed our puzzle to guess the “address” for the loading dock.
The Warehouse is still there, but it’s not updated for the past several months, and will remain static from now on. You might enjoy some of the items there including clip collections, fonts and templates if you’ve never been there. Each month the address is either the month name or the monthly color.

Autumn is here… gearing up

With the Fall Fonts Festival under way, we’ll be adding new items all through the month, and through October. It’ll be fun, and don’t forget to share your favorite type and font comments!

We’ll probably get started on the Holiday season during October as well, so get your thinking cap ready to share holiday and seasonal tips, tricks and promotions for November and December.

September is brought to you by “the color Russet” … moving us toward Autumn!
GO September is brought to you by the letter ‘S’

And, as for this month, well, you’ve already wasted a perfectly good hour reading the DTG newsletter. Hopefully all is not wasted and you’ve gained at least one helpful tidbit of info.

Thanks for reading… go forth and be creative!
