EMBRACE+ and the Future of Phone Notifications

Well, are you ready for the next big thing? Are you ready to wear your iPhone on your arm? You knew this was coming right? Well, here it is . . . the smart phone watch

Cool ideas? EMBRACE+ and other emerging smart tech jewelry have the power to keep people connected in the physical and mobile worlds . . . Today, everybody is constantly checking their phones. Whether they are at the movies, at work, or at the gym, people are always plugged in. Now, with emerging, wearable technology accessories, such as the EMBRACE+ smart bracelet, consumers can stay connected, but with little interruption to their daily lives.

According to Quailcomm, 84% of people worldwide say they can’t go a day without their phone, so it’s safe to assume smartphones are here to stay. On average, people check their phone 150 times per day. That means every seven minutes, a person is putting everything else aside to look at their phones. With a fear of missing something crucial, phone owners feel the need to be constantly attached to their device.

Dean Obeidallah’s 2012 CNN experiment, where he went a day without his phone, is the prime example of people’s phone addiction.

Needless to say, this addiction the world has to keep their phone within arms-reach has become a major distraction. With over 700,000 apps available for Android or Apple iOS devices, the 78% of U.S. adults (15 to 64 years old) who actively use those smartphones have more alerts than most (Business Insider*). Not only is this habit affecting the phone owner’s life, but it is also very rude and annoying to those around them. For everything from crucial work emails, to Words with Friends alerts, to important phone calls, to Facebook notifications, phones are continuously pestering the public and negatively impacting every day life.

Over the past five years, these constant distractions have been escalating to dangerous levels. Whether having resulted in diminished productivity at work, or carelessness while driving, cellphones are hindering people’s everyday lives. In a study by CubeSmart Inc, once one is interrupted during work, it takes twenty minutes to get back to their prior level of concentration. If someone is interrupted multiple times a day by phone alerts, their productivity would significantly decrease.

However, with the recent growth in emerging wearable technology, phone owners can screen and select potential interruptions. With new tech accessories, like Pebble and EMBRACE+, people can gain distance from their phone, but remain connected to the mobile world. In the case of EMBRACE+, owners can use the smart bracelet as a modern day pager. By setting custom profiles to alert them of only specific calls or emails while at work, they would have less unnecessary interruptions, and productivity is likely to increase.

New wearable technology allows users to be connected to their device, but in a convenient and helpful way. Instead of alerts rudely interrupting every day life, wearable smart jewelry offers a friendly tech savvy method of receiving notifications. As the benefits of using emerging smart phone accessories become common knowledge, products like Pebble and EMBRACE+ will become a staple in owning a phone.
