5 Rules for Publishing Accessible Content

Creating a website that’s fully accessible to disabled users is typically a collaborative effort. You can hire the best teams of designers and developers, but if you don’t provide content that’s written with accessibility as a priority, you can still end up with major barriers.
A website consists of two key elements: the structure and the content. If the site doesn’t have an accessible structure, users may not get to your content. But if it doesn’t have accessible content, then disabled visitors won’t be able to use it.

The Importance of SEO Training for Editorial Teams

Search engines typically represent one of the largest—if not the largest—traffic sources for websites and online publishers, in particular. And publishing houses’ editorial teams hold the keys to this traffic, so it only makes sense to align their efforts with a content strategy that is backed by keyword and topic search volume data.
SEO expert Dan Kern writes :
I was director of organic search (SEO) at F+W (Digital Book World’s parent company) from 2012 to 2013 after successfully using SEO to meet online revenue goals as an online product manager for a few years. During this time, I oversaw approximately 200 websites and saw an overall eight-percent growth (year-over-year) by the time I had left. Not an easy task for so many websites. We battled Google’s many algorithm updates (especially during 2012) and had to recover many websites from Panda penalties. While this “defensive” approach (mostly using technical SEO) was important, one of my team’s top achievements was teaching editorial teams how to incorporate SEO into their efforts.

5 SEO Myths that Can Seriously Hurt Your Search Rankings

Of all the digital marketing methods, SEO is by far the most misunderstood. Constant changes to how people use the web and the role of search engines mean there’s always something new to think about. Not to mention an endless stream of rumours and SEO myths that come along with each new development.
So today we want to explore five of the most common myths about SEO in 2016, because making the wrong assumptions about the state of search marketing is the fastest way to hurt your rankings.

Why Content Marketing is the New SEO

SEO is not what it used to be. You can’t just pop up an ugly website, throw up mediocre content, build a few links and expect to rank well. These days you actually have to build a good website, write high quality content that solves peoples’ problems, build thousands of links and get thousands of social shares.
But there is one big issue: it’s hard to scale all of this. Building thousands of high quality links manually is really expensive, and even if you have the money, it will take months, if not years, to build those links. And if you don’t have anything worth sharing on the social web, you won’t get social shares unless you buy them from spammy accounts.
BEWARE … this is a pretty heavy-duty spam site, a pop-up spam will carry you away from this article, but you can overcome it with your “reader” icon in the browser bar to avoid much of the screen spam … http://bit.ly/29GeSx4

5 Traffic-Growing On-Page Optimization Tips for Publishers

Quite possibly the most important part of SEO is content creation, and the optimization of that content. In this article, I’m going to offer some insider tips on how to optimize your content and prepare it to rank well in Google and drive the traffic that you’re seeking.
Often the most discussed content element to optimize is metadata. The most common form of metadata include a page’s page title and meta description, which are used along with a page’s URL in search engine results pages (SERPs) to help the user decide if your listing is of interest to them.

MultiBrief: How to measure social media ROI

Measuring the return on your social media efforts has been steadily increasing in importance.
To justify spending money, time and resources on digital/social marketing has become crucial for marketing departments as well as the senior management of an organization. The investment made needs to demonstrate the positive effects on the organization’s broader business goals.

Web Advertising Sucks… Affiliate Fees Are Going To Take Over!

When the consumer Web exploded in the mid-1990s, part of the promise was that it would transform careers and the concept of work. Remember the signs on telephone poles and banners all over the Internet? “Work at home and turn your computer into a cash register! Ask me how.” The next generation of Americans would be able to work on their own terms.
It didn’t turn out that way. If anything, digital technology has overwhelmed those who sought to master it. The Web may be a technological marvel, but to most people who use it for work, it functions like an old-fashioned hamster wheel, except at Internet speed.
