’tis the Season for Fresh, Alive, Elegant Typography

This is the time to design for comfortable, friendly feelings. Nothing better than some fresh, hand lettering or vintage lettering to denote family, fun and casual times. These are three font families that are very friendly, expert level, professionally designed but won’t cost but a few dollars. ’tis the Season for Fresh, Alive, Elegant Typography

Mandalas – an age old art form finds new life in today’s society

ONCE UPON A TIME, I had the pleasant occasion to view a sand mandala being painted by the monks from the Drepung Loseling monastery of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama in Tibet, India. I was wrapped in awe as I stood watching the painting unfold — receiving a real-world lesson that art isn’t just for the eye of the beholder — but for body and soul as well.

64 Mandala coloring pages get you started in the art of soothing coloring therapy

Did you read my article about visiting Drepung Loseling Monks to watch as they created mandalas from colored sand! Color Therapy : 40 Excellent coloring pages to color your way to good health!

LITTLE DID I KNOW over the past several years of evangelizing coloring books for kids, I was scooping in a thoroughly adult market — with a cause, even! Spiked has posted an article about the trend toward “infantilising” — and we’re also told that the popularisation of the idea of wellbeing is itself culturally significant. Okay . . . so color on! Color and Art Therapy for Grown Ups — Makes Anyone an Artist

Adult coloring is a recent fad, and they’re even saying it’s good therapy! Well, there’s nothing new about that. We’ve known about the value of creative activities for decades. DT&G Advertising update : Ad Blockers

The online world and its unsatiable hunger for money has broken all rules and enraged the online population to the point of mutany! The design community as well as old school internet purists said all along that you could tell your web page sucks if you have advertising. But the web industry just wouldn’t listen. Now, it appears a huge push-back is coming and it will make the connected world a better place. DT&G Advertising update : Ad Blockers

December is brought to you by “the color RED
and the letter “D”

Did you do something good this year? The world would be a better place if we all adopted the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin:

Each morning he would ask himself
“What good can I do today?”

… then each evening, before bed, he would ask himself:
“What good did I do today?”
Try to live by that thought.

This month, catch up on good deeds you passed by throughout the year. Help out at the children’s organization, or your local Salvation Army. Take a food basket to your local church’s food drive. Turn in all your old, unused coats and sweat shirts to the local Goodwill. Pull out that checkbook and write some checks to your local free clinic, or the Boys and Girls clubs.
If you want to know what I’m doing, you can catch up with my charitable foundation at www.appleseedsfound.org

And, to you all, we send our warmest wishes for a joyous holiday season — and best wishes for a healthy and productive new year. We’re proud that you’ve chosen the Design Center community to be part of your life — and hope to bring you many benefits in the months to come.

Well, once again you’ve already wasted a perfectly good hour reading the DTG newsletter. Hopefully all is not wasted and you’ve gained at least one helpful tidbit of info.

Thanks for reading… go forth and be creative!
