June and July and the livin’ was Easy
Now it’s August. It’s been hot, and I’ve been feeling very lazy. Like the words of the familiar song : “Sun is hot and that old clock is movin’ slow . . . and so am I!” You’ve had too much to do, I can tell. Nobody. Not even one reader wrote in during July, and our “Freedom” exercise went without answer. Okay. End of that promotion. I have four new blog postings standing in line waiting to be written, so August will be the “thoughtful” month for 60-Seconds. It’s also back to school month, so I’m going in search of some outstanding learning opportunities.
Hats off to Lynda Weinman and Lynda.com
Lynda made it. I’m so happy for her if she were her I’d have to hug her. I remember back in sometime around the mid 1990s, talking with Lynda at Macworld, and on her listserv Webdesign about her dreams to open a training site. We knew it would go — we were both gamefully employed by the country’s most popular seminar brokers, along with tradeshows and private training gigs. The online training industry was ripe for the picking, and Lynda was just the kind of personality to really fly. And she did. She just sold her site, Lynda.com to LinkedIN for 1.2 Billion. One-point-two-billion. That’s a ‘b’ not an ‘m’!!!
Lynda, we’re so, so, proud of you!
You rock.

60-Seconds #326 : Fools Gold – web advertising
So you think you’re getting rich with web affiliate schemes, and Google? You’re giving away your web space in exchange for a percentage of a sale? From where I’m standing it looks like a huge rip-off to the benefit of the advertiser. If you’re paying attention to what’s happening, you might think different. 60-Seconds #326 : Fools Gold – web advertising

60-Seconds #325 : Should graphic designers have social responsibility?
You may remember my 2002 post about Steven Heller’s “Citizen Designer.” Milton Glaser often says, “Good design is good citizenship.” So, we decided to go out on the limb a decade later and ask the same question amongst a cross section of Designers today. The responses we got are somewhat amazing! Is the graphic designer as accountable as the marketing and publicity departments for the propagation of a message or idea? Be careful, don’t answer until you’ve read this.
60 Seconds #324: Getting a job in the Web Design field takes a little more than an email
Now that so many have graduated from design schools in the past few weeks, it’s time to hit the streets looking for a job. I understand job hunting is tough these days, so it is ever amazing to see how many really, really BAD solicitations we receive. It’s amazing. Here another example of a really horrible solicitation. 60 Seconds #324: Getting a job in the Web Design field takes a little more than an email

There’s a new Media Browser in town, and it’s awesome
Most of the media viewers and organizers have gotten fat and sloppy. We’ve been trying to use Bridge, but it’s as bad as Adobe — like a big fat person sitting on the sofa eating chocolates! Not Corduroy Code and their new Fileloupe 1.0 for Mac OS X. Fileloupe combines the features of a photo viewer, video player and document browser into a single, exceptionally fast application.
