Every year one individual seems to stand out from the rest — captivating our interest and admiration. In 2008 it was Luba Lukova; in 2010 it was Jessica Hische; ten years ago it was Nena Anderson — there are many others, and they all have one thing in common. Beside their extraordinary talent they share a unique perspective of vision along with an entrepreneurial spirit that takes them to the top of their field! Lois van Baarle epitomizes those qualities — and is our Designing Woman for March 2015!

Celebrating Women’s History Month won’t be complete without taking a look at some of the spectacular work created by women in the art and publishing world. Many of us were raised on these illustrations. A whole generation enjoyed books and reading as the favored diversion — there were no TVs, computers or other visual medias. A Pictorial tour through fashions of the 20th Century
As we embark on this year’s “Women’s History Month” someone mentioned that fashion plays a huge role in societal development — and that some of the world’s most beloved fashion designers are women! So we pulled from the Design-bookshelf’s playbook and opened these books that follow a bit of the path of fashion. The samples we’ve included here are drawings or actual clip art that appeared in publications.
They all give a visual waltz through the 19th and 20th centuries of fashion! Enjoy!

Although the first day of spring has come and gone, winter isn’t quite done yet! Many places around the world are still being covered by snow. In parts of the North American continent, they’re being covered with blanket after blanket after blanket of record-breaking snowfall. Many places turn that event into a fun event by building snow sculptures.

Sci Fi illustration: Erasing the line between man and machine
The movie “The Terminator” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was probably the first to really bring the concept of the cyborg to the forefront. There had been others, but none really as compelling as that famous series. The movie’s creator James Cameron probably never suspected that his film in 1984 would spawn a generation of cyborg fans
— still very much alive 30 years later!

The 25th Year for Design, Type & Graphic
Yes, it hasn’t really felt like 25 years since the DT&G was launched on those first online communities, and shared by many, many Dynamic Graphics seminar attendees! It’s been a pleasure, and we hope you have enjoyed it as much as we have. Now here’s the scoop: things are about to change.
The online world has changed so much, with tens of thousands of graphic design sites, there’s no longer a viable model for DT&G. I feel like much of our content areas can simply be eliminated. With social media, there’s no longer a need for ‘community’ or interaction between readers. So the Design Center and DT&G are about to transcend to the next chapter. I plan to continue with 60-Second Windows and 60-Seconds.com. But I’ll be fine-tuning the content I concentrate on to more closely purvey and share my strongest contributions to the graphic design community. I think it will be fun, and I’m hoping you’ll like it and stick around!
For now, have a great time in the March DT&G
