Graphic design logos, branding and logotype design training for young designers

No fonts fest about type, typography, lettering, calligraphy and fonts would be complete without a collection of books about logotypes, symbols, logos and branding. Type and typography plays a huge part in identity design. This year, there are lots of new entries — some even spawned by the internet. Beware though — many of today’s self-anointed internet designers really don’t know much about real design or logos. Take their writings with a grain of salt, then rely on the masters Graphic design logos, branding and logotype design training for young designers

One of my treasured resources is Vector Stock

These guys are probably one of the largest royalty-free vector only stock agency in the world. Every week they add new premium vector graphics, and you can almost always find what you’re looking for. Now, let’s be clear : they are NOT a photo house. You won’t find many photos. Whether you’re a global ad agency or a freelance graphic designer, you may want to take a look today :

It’s a Rainbow! No, it’s FontRainbow

When the Font Rainbow folks came to us, we thought they were simply crazy. How do you do anything with Windows fonts??? But seriously, it it very simple — they’ve made font management as simple as it could possibly be. For example, you can install and uninstall with a single click. What software these days does that? Not even on a Mac! You’ll never need to click on a face name to preview a font. With FontRainbow, sample text is visible all the time, for all fonts, with no clicking.
GO Windows folks check this out right away!

Get ready for the Holiday Season…

The wonderful thing about the Design Center and the Design Cafe discussion list is that you make new friends each month. Next month we’ll be featureing some web reviews from www.WebDesign-Review.com, and some wisdom from our Cafe discussions.

I’d like to send you a new graphic design book!
Here’s a reminder that as we move into the holiday season, our November issue is all about projects designers like to enhance, celebrate or promote during the November / December holiday season. It’ll be fun for us all, and I urge you to participate. Those authors who send letters and articles chosen for publication will receive a Graphic Design Books grab bag from the Design-Bookshelf.com.

Those wild and crazy guys at the Publishers’ Warehouse Loading Dock have been busy gathering more great stuff for you to download, use and enjoy! Yes, there are bunches of new fonts and such for the October Fonts Festival — but watch out — they’ve promised the best holiday collection yet. We know they’ve uploaded a whole new batch of Calendar Girls from the 1950s … so those of you who really like vintage art — dig in. They’ve also uploaded a series of Photoshop PDF tutorials from previous DTG contributors who’s web page tutorials have gone dead, or dark.
