Sunny Days Are Here Again It's that time of year again. Get your camera out of hibernation, make sure the battery is up to snuff, load your camera with your favorite film and get ready for fair weather ahead. How long has it been since you sent Mom pictures of the clan? Mother's Day is just ahead. What a great opportunity to update the family photo album! Catch some shots of the kids playing baseball or have a picnic and bring the camera along. Summertime Tips Remember never leave your camera in a hot car. The heat will fog the film and may even permanently damage your valuable equipment. Most modern cameras are made from materials that can't tolerate heat. Make sure your camera is working okay before you take off. Never take along a brand new piece of equipment without testing it first and familiarizing yourself with its features beforehand. Before leaving on vacation, use the web to research your destination for photo opportunities. When traveling by air within the United States, insist on hand inspection of both camera and film. Airport x-ray machines can damage fast film. Instead of carrying photo equipment in a flashy camera bag which advertises the value of the contents, use a nondescript shoulder bag and add some foam padding. Staying in one location for a few days? Find a local mini-lab to process your film. This way you'll know the camera is working fine, and you'll have a chance to reshoot any pictures which didn't meet your expectations. Fred's Been Testing Another Digicam If you've been following our reports, Fred Showker found a digital camera he really enjoyed, the Nikon Coolpix 900s. He liked it so much he tried to buy one. That's when we got the bad news. None were available! Nikon (who loaned our test model) had already stopped production of the 900s, and was getting ready to roll out a new 2 megapixel model, the Coolpix 950; it's just hitting store shelves right now. Nikon offered to send a new test model and we're still waiting. In the interim Fred has been looking at another great piece of equipment, the Olympus D-400 ZOOM. The Olympus digicam has got all kinds of great features, like... oh, wait a minute, I'll let Fred tell you. (hyperlink.) Of course, we'll continue testing and reporting on any digital equipment made available to our staff. That's why we're here.
