Flash on Tap
screen Golden Globe Waltz with Bashir
The May 28-30th Flash on Tap Conference today announced that Yoni Goodman, Director of Animation for Waltz with Bashir will join the line-up of keynote conference speakers. Goodman worked with Director, Ari Goldman, and Art Director, David Polonsky, to create this award-winning and critically acclaimed animated documentary that deals with the Israeli Army's mission in the 1982 Lebanon War, highlighted by animated interviews with those who took part.
Waltz with Bashir was initially created as a real video based on a 90-page script. It was then shot in a sound studio and cut as a 90-minute length video film. From there the directors story-boarded the feature so that it could then be translated into 2300 illustrations used to create the animation. The animation format, invented by Goodman, is a unique combination of Flash animation, classic animation and 3D.
Goodman will discuss his work on the film, including the creation of its unique Flash-cutout technique as well as his career as a designer and also as an instructor at Bazalel Academy of Arts and Design in Israel.
"This project was a real breakthrough for the use of Flash for a feature film," said Goodman. "And, although our team has been speaking about the film and the unique animation technique to audiences around the world, it will be really exciting for me, as a designer, to speak with the core community of Flash designers and developers - the folks that really understand how Flash can be a versatile technique for so many new applications and art forms."
"We are excited to have Yoni Goodman come to the event and share a personal account of the techniques he used," said Paul Blakely, VP of Marketing for Influxis, Adobe Flash Media Server specialist and event co-creator. "We know his presentation will be well received by those in the Flash industry who understand and can appreciate all the detailed work that went into this film. Goodman's work ushers in a new era where Flash designers and developers can now translate their skills to the big screen."
Screening of Waltz with Bashir will take place during the conference. It is part of a full schedule of educational and inspirational keynote presentations, in-depth breakout sessions, skill-building workshops, beer-tasting activities and social networking events.
