March is National Women's History month

Here, we're running the 22nd Annual Designing Women feature -- and having a superb time enjoying meeting and seeing so many great designers, illustrators, typographers, photographers and visual communications practitioners. This is maybe my favorite two months, March and April, because it's all about YOU. So enjoy the series . . .

For the big picture try a Google search for designing women at graphic-design.com -- you'll find more than one thousand articles! http://bit.ly/2lQb0Ch

I won't list all the articles here, just dig in using the tag "designing women' . . . . I won't list all the articles here, just dig in using the tag "designing women' . . . .

Approaching 30 : what about DT&G and the Design Center?

This is something I still cannot get through my head. Has it been nearly 30 years? We've been digitally publishing longer than many of our readers have been alive. While on the other hand, I can actually recognize some readers, who are STILL HERE -- who got on board in the very beginning.

Here we are in the third month of 2017, and this is the FIRST you've heard from me. Oh, we've still been publishing lots of cool stuff to the graphic-design.com site -- you can be sure. However, I'm reflecting on the value of the email newsletter. You know, I haven't heard from anyone who missed the January or February newsletter. What's that say to you?

New stuff of interest and note:

Since this newsletter won't have a three month listing of all the content you've missed, I do want to note a couple of important items. For the others, we'll go tag-based and let it go at that.

60-Seconds #340 : Does Stephen Hawking or Wolf Blitzer know they are spam heros?

It occured to me the other day that I sure am glad I'm not Stephen Hawking. But then the little voice said aren't you ashamed of yourself, Mr. Hawking along with Wolf Blitzer*, Anderson Cooper* and Jon Stewart* have been attacked by cyber crime in one of the worst ways possible! Cybercrime has exploited his condition and made him the most spoofed celebrity in 2016!
GO 60-Seconds #340 : Does Stephen Hawking or Wolf Blitzer know they are spam heros?

2017 Prediction: cyber clouds with chance of pain: threats, invasions, cyber wars and you!

Unfortunately this edition has to be way beyond 60-seconds. Many of you already know that I've been involved in tracking cyber activities since the late 1980s. I have not been digging into the intracies of how it works or the background -- but rather about discovery, tracking and reporting. I've been a highly active Spamcop user/agent, and active participating Knujon user and evangelist. As a reporter for UGNN and Safenetting, I've have closely followed the threats arriving in the mailbox and on the web, as well as tracking and discovering where the threats are coming from, who could be behind them, and the owners/publishers of the sites and internet resources they use. Since the late 1990s, cyber crime and cyber intrusion has taken on another level of divisiveness for religious, political and societal gain. Add these references to your reading list, and you'll see the rest of the iceberg that is the cyber world:
GO 2017 Prediction: cyber clouds with chance of pain: threats, invasions, cyber wars and you!

&Else covers ground of interest and entertainment

Since the beginning, the &Else column takes on items that may not necessarily be in the sights of visual communicaitons ... we've had a number of updates there from Drones to ad-blockers to new apps for designers. Just use the tag else-0

Typography, lettering, fonts and a brief History

During the break I spent the time required to go back and completely update links and images in our famous series "A Brief History of Typography" ... originally posted by Thomas Phinney. You might want to add that to your resources: "A Brief History of Typography"

A bunch of new ones there, use the tag creative-tidbits

Notable in the Design-Bookshelf

We had some really fun entries in the shelf from arts and crafts to creative projects ... I discovered Rock Art!: Painting and Crafting with the Humble Pebble among several cool new graphic novels. Also, some of you may have heard of Scott Kelby? Well, he has been called many things ... but we call him the hardest working guy in Photoshop -- so I've completely updated his books listing! Notable in the Design-Bookshelf

Web Design, social media, online marketing, et' alive

We've had a number of updates in the Web design department, taking on Social Media, Chatbots, YouTube, Google, iTunes, AI, Facebook, Twitter and a whole bunch more -- aim your browser at : Web Design, social media, online marketing, et' alive

March & April in the Gallery : Designing Women

At the top of the banner this issue is our continuing feature "Designing Women" which will continue over into April. Don't forget, we're taking nominations of designers you would like to add to our celebration, and all you have to do is visit : http://www.graphic-design.com/Gallery/designing_women.html ... then jump into this year's wonderful Designing Women :

Getting with the times

We've all seen how social media has taken over. We've all seen how the cell phone has become the ever growing choice of digital connection. (Google says 65%, others say 75% of online access comes from cell phones or tablets / mobile devices. Really?) So, I find myself in the same predicament the dinosaurs found themselves in during the second cycle of global warming on this planet. And it's getting hotter!

The reason I'm writing this in the newsletter is I believe there's a reader out there with the qualifications, and inclination to help me bring the DT&G properties up to date -- and since I've always supported the concept of using talent I'm already associated with -- herein, I'm saying if you have credentials to help take this site mobile, then contact me. I hate making cold calls, and breaking in new talent -- and if you've been a reader, and visited the site more than a couple of times, I believe you're better suited to the task. 'Nuff said -- contact me, or just reply to this newsletter. :-)

Looking forward to the Spring

As we head toward spring, remember we're looking for Designing Women to feature in April and promotion tips, tricks and experiences to jump-start the creative mind for the May issue.

And, once again you've already wasted a perfectly good hour reading the DTG newsletter. Hopefully all is not wasted and you've gained at least one helpful tidbit of info

And, as for this month, well, you've already wasted a perfectly good hour reading the DTG newsletter. Hopefully all is not wasted and you've gained at least one helpful tidbit of info.

Thanks for reading... go forth and be creative!
