This month’s font is called Gor and comes to us from our good friend Taymee at Phil’s Fonts. Gor was designed as a Egyptian serif font with a gothic undertone. Developer and designer Stefan Kjartansson says: “It took 2 years to make, very much a child of it's time. GOR was a hard lesson in Fontographer.” Stefan Kjartansson is a native of Reykjavik, Iceland, and holds a graphic design degree from the Icelandic College of Arts. Today he plies his skills as creative director of CNN Interactive, in charge of directing the creation and production of all design elements used in CNN Interactive products, including content and graphical user interface (GUI). Formerly CNN Interactive’s senior multimedia designer, Kjartansson spearheaded the redesign of CNN.com in May of 1998. He also led the design team that helped launch CNNenEspanol.com, CNNenPortugues.com and CNN.com/ColdWar, the interactive companion to CNN's 24-hour documentary series, COLD WAR. Kjartansson also was the main designer for 1997's redesign of CNN.com, CustomNews, Svenska CNN and Point Cast. He has garnered an honorable mention award from GarageFonts and Macromedias’ “Next Big Whatever” competition for his Caligula typeface, and CNN’s COLD WAR online companion site won Communication Arts’ Site of the Week. We’re thrilled to meet Stefan and his GOR font. Take a look at out samples above. “November” is all caps, and despite those rather distinctive characters it is still highly readable. The slightly muddled style is “Gor Fax” designed to look like Gor having been sent through the fax machine. The “Mayflower” sample is the italics which is by far our favorite posture of the font.
