Tip #100 Converting Colors...

We have the PMS builds in Rolodex format so that I can pull it up at any time and actually build an accurate PMS color. Very handy, and many of the colors we've 'tweaked' to look more like the actual color on output devices.
If you do this a lot you might want to invest in the Color Specifier book from Pantone. It's expensive, and hard to use but gives all the colors. Our "ColorBuilder" QuickDex look-up is an abreviated version of that.
Additionally...
"How true of a match will the colors be?"
Let's say 'close'. In much of our testing using our ColorBuilder testing kit (marketed in the late '80s) we continually find that the service bureau and their current conditions have a great deal to do with the results of color. If it's not right, you can also bet they'll blame it on YOUR file.
That's why we originally developed ColorBuilder in the first place. To catch service bureaus who 'blame' sloppy practices on your files. I cannot even venture to guess how many hundreds of thousands of dollars are ripped from service bureau customers each year on "your file."
I know some of you will have a better method... please share it with the rest of us.
