Tip #93 New color for the T-Shirt...

[ Help... how do I change the color of a person's shirt in a photo I scanned? Nothing seems to work but the hue/saturation, but it kills the detail!

Try dropping another adjustment layer onto the selected shirt and separately adjust the levels to bring up the tonal values in the shadow areas. Adjust the contrast to build highlights.

Now, generate yet another layer and utilize the same selection... fill with the desired color, and set the layer's blend mode to color.
Did that work?

If more drastic measures are required, drag the selected shirt to a new layer and change the color mode to Grayscale. Now adjust brightness/contrast to bring out those highlights. Return to RGB and color it again (color or multiply) and you're home free.

I know some of you will have a better method... please share it with the rest of us.
