SCAD's Mac labs are equipped with color monitors, a Tektronics color printer, a Solitaire film recorder, two(!) Xerox/Fiery color copier/printers, laser printers, scanners, and the latest in software. The Late Professor Jim Alley started the Macintosh program at SCAD. Alley's computer work has been published in several books and magazines, including Macworld magazine and Becoming a Mac Artist as well. Alley is also a regular columnist for Print magazine and the editor of Mac Monitor. Alley's students share his enthusiasm for the computer. "The students here are doing exciting things in many areas. The computer is a tool, just like a camera, paintbrush, or loom. All tools have their strengths and their limitations. It is up to the individual artist to find the best combination of tools to achieve the effects he desires. Right now the computer is one of the most exciting tools available."
