The powers of macros...
the power of QuicKeys

Several years ago I ran a series of articles called "Powerhouse Text Editing" -- and now that has become a new workshop I conduct at the various trade shows. A macro program such as QuicKeys figures heavily into the techniques described there.
... You may remember it. I walked, step-by-step, through processes of editing text, placing marker characters, finding, styling and importing from text editors into Quark XPress. The processes are complicated, but they solved problems sent in by a number of DT&G readers.
... The slant was automating the construction and styling of a large database into a Quark, print-ready, catalog.
... In that series the program QuicKeys was the key element in automating much of the tedium involved in dealing with long, multi-styled publishing documents. We had several hundred items, each of which had five or more features that individually had to be set to a stylesheet. If you've ever styled a document such as this you know that it takes hours and hours to trickle through the document selecting and styling the elements. QuicKeys made it possible to style each rank, throughout the entire document with just a few keystrokes.
... On the downside, we had hundreds of emails from readers lamenting that they were on the PC/Windows platform and didn't have such a program. Well folks, those cries have been heard and CE Software has rolled out QuicKeys for the PC. Now you can tap the powers of the best macro program in the industry, right there on your own keyboard.

Mac and Windows users can enjoy QuicKeys >>>
