Promo Ideas
Wag the dog

Here are some very effective self-promotions I've recently run across that offer easy, low cost but hard hitting concepts that you can put to use. It’s sort of like the tail wagging the dog, and many times your promotional efforts, when there’s no promotion, actually yeild more results than the sizzle.

Design Type Graphics - Self Promotion IdeasMake your bean counters perk...
The Oracle Education division wanted to catch my attention for their new "Fresh JAVA to Go" capabilities. They sure did!
__ Using the metaphor of a coffee bag with coffee beans, Oracle actually used real coffee bags for the envelope! That got my attention right away! On the front was a label announcing "Fresh Java Goes Down Easy" ... then, "Hand-Picked Just for you!" The gripper said: "Your future's in the bag."
__ Of course I had to open it, and out came a beautiful little brochure telling about the series of courses. All through the publication they carried out the theme... "plus an offer to make your company's bean counters really perk up!" Swell job -- my hat's off to the creative talent that dreamed up this honey of a promotion.
__ Now ask yourself: what ordinary object can you incorporate into your next promotion? This one was superb. The bags probably didn't cost much more than envelopes, and guess which got opened first! What 'off-the-shelf' containers are available to take the place of an envelope?

Can you think of any?
