Your photos, 300-style!

Photoshop Tips & Tricks for Retouching

Give photographs the sepia-toned 300 movie effect. The author Morgan Kervin writes :
Before I begin I will say that each image, no matter how many times you do it will not turn out the same. Each adjustment is made to taste and completely depends on your image.

Vignetting : the good, the bad and the ugly

Photoshop Tips & Tricks for Retouching

Some photographers battle to eliminate vignetting – darkened edges and corners – from their shots, but used creatively, it can add interest to otherwise dull photos, and can help focus the eye on the subject of the image.
But while a vignette can be added in Photoshop either manually using the Burn tool or by using the Lens Correction tool in CS2 or later, the result is often a little flat, as you can see from the examples at the bottom of this page. It’s easy to create a much more crisp, eye-catching result

Giving Your Photos A Glow

Photoshop Tips & Tricks for Retouching

Glenn E. Mitchell II, Ph.D. of The Light’s Right Studio writes :
I was looking at some of the recent work of Michael Reichmann. I was struck by one of the photos from a fair in Seville. Michael added a diffuse glow to a group of women, and it really added a defining touch to the image. It gave the image a dreamy look, as if the image truly was painted with light. Michael took an excellent image and made it exquisite.

Color Correction Using Levels and Eyedroppers

Photoshop Tips & Tricks for Retouching

In this Photoshop tutorial, you’ll see another method of correcting colors by using the levels-adjustment feature and by sampling colors with the eyedropper tool. Author Colin Smith writes :
As you can see, the image is lacking a bit of contrast and also has a slight color cast to it. It’s really not that bad (or is it?), but just looks somewhat dirty. You will soon see a huge difference in image quality.

Improve Your Landscape Photographs Using Photoshop

Photoshop Tips & Tricks for Retouching

Author David L. Tong writes :
Most good landscape shots relies on dynamic range. The amount of details in the highlights and shadows play an important role with the shot. Not all of us (myself included) are readily equipped with filters that’ll help balance out the exposure and while high-dynamic range (HDR) photography seems to answer that issue, most HDR attempts attempts by newbies result to very unrealistic effects that look downright tacky. It takes a lot of skill during capture and post-processing to create HDR photographs.

Photoshop Masking & Montage Tutorial — Using Masks To Improve Landscape Images

Photoshop Tips & Tricks for Retouching

Adapted from “Photoshop CS3 Essential Skills” by Mark Galer and Philip Andrews
The sky is an essential ingredient of any memorable landscape image. Unfortunately it is not something the photographer can control unless we have limitless time and patience. The commercial photographer is often required to deliver the goods on a day that suits the client rather than the photographer and weather forecast.
CAUTION Careful, this site has a huge amount of screen spam.

Enhance Your Image with Selective Color Adjustments

Photoshop Tips & Tricks for Retouching

This tutorial uses a “non-destructive” and selective method for enhancing colors in a photograph.
These techniques will make your images “finished” and professional. My main weapon is the Selective Color adjustment layer.
