Selected among thousands of photographers from all over the world, Dilip Bhatia (2009 1st Prize, WPGA Photographer of the Year, above), Larry Louie, Tom Atwood, John Delaney, Antonio Bolfo, David Zimmerman, Tom Chambers, Navid Baraty, and Lorne Resnick were the main awardees in the 2009 WPGA Annual Competition. Now this second edition offers new and outstanding recognition opportunities for professional and non-professional photographers worldwide.

After the tremendous response to the first WPGA Annual Photography Competition, the second edition of this world-wide competition has been announced. This is your chance to enter a competition that is geared to you, the photographer, with more choices, more chances, more prizes!

The Second Edition of the WPGA Annual Photography Competition has new rules and opportunities. For the first time WPGA will honor the overall winners with the Pollux Awards in the Gala Ceremony to be held in Madrid, in the Circle of Fine Arts, November 2010, benefitting Save the Children.

WPGA is committed to discover and distinguish new talents as well as to acknowledge established artists. You can become part of a select group of photographers that are shifting the world of photography. Enter your images to one of the most challenging and rewarding photographic competitions.

Categories: Portrait, People, Culture/Daily Life, Self Portrait, Wedding, Children, Figure/Nude, Fine Art, Landscapes, Cityscapes, Animals/Wildlife, Nature, Architecture, Abstract, Macro/Micro, Still Life, Sports, Performing Arts, Fashion, Advertising, Humanitary/Documentary, Digital Manipulation.

In each genre of every category of the different sections WPGA will select 10 finalists, which will be announced online. Those finalists will participate in the final selection. In each genre of every category in the three sections, judges will give First, Second, and Third prizes, making a total of 450 awards.

The finalists will be chosen by the Board of Art Advisors of the WPGA. A team of jurors, to be disclosed jointly with the announcements of the finalists will choose the overall winners of the competition. Past and current WPGA competitions were (or are being) judged by leading photographers, curators, and publishers: Mary Ellen Mark, Chris Steele-Perkins, Carol McCusker, Rosanna Checchi, Olivia Arthur, Susan Zadeh, Tim Anderson, Brooks Jensen, Stephen Perloff, Roy Flukinger, Vanessa Winship, Kim Weston, Paul Cava, Per Valentin, Alexander Scholz, GMB Akash, Alessandra Sanguinetti, and Reid Callanan.

Prizes:

WPGA 2010 Professional Photographer of the Year:

  • $5,000 (USD) cash prize ~ Free round trip ticket and 3-days lodging to attend the Awards Ceremony, ~ which will take place in Madrid at The Circle of Fine Arts in ~ November 2010. Pollux Statue.

WPGA Amateur Photographer of the Year:

  • $3,000(USD) cash prize ~ Free round trip ticket and 3-days lodging to attend the Awards Ceremony ~ which will take place in Madrid at The Circle of Fine Arts in ~ November 2010. Pollux Statue.

WPGA 2010 Emerging Talent of the Year:

  • $1,500 (USD) cash prize ~ Free round trip ticket and 3-days lodging to attend the Awards Ceremony, ~ which will take place in Madrid at The Circle of Fine Arts in ~ November 2010. Pollux Statue.

WPGA Humanitarian Documentary Grant 2010:

  • $3,000 (USD) cash prize ~ Free round trip ticket and 3-days lodging to attend the Awards Ceremony, ~ which will take place in Madrid at The Circle of Fine Arts in ~ November 2010. Pollux Statue.
