Continuing the quest for the perfect color palette, an essential part of a designer’s workflow. While many of these are based on web color, or intended for web color, some interesting results can be applied to any color application. Adonit writes:

Kanittha Pansomboon, in “Color Theory” writes:

Every artist should learn color theory, but what exactly is color theory? Color theory is considered a body of practical guidance that gives the artist guidelines as to the mixing of colors. Color theory helps you mix the colors you need to make the visual impact that you desire. Leonardo da Vinci and Leon Battista Alberti both used the principles of color theory.

In her Art Tutorials, Dianne Mize writes :

Imagine music without a clear melody. . . In art, a close equivalent to that would be a painting without clear values or colors. Just as the notes and rhythms of a melody lead us through a musical piece, it is value and color that move us through a painting.

This is a very useful online color scheme generator created by by Jemima Pereira. This page includes a brief explanation of web-safe, web-smart, unsafe, RGB, and HSV colors, and links to other helpful color pages.

Slayeroffice Color Palette

This tool will create 10 shades of the base color, located top-left, at varying degrees of opacity. The top row emulates opacity over a white background, the bottom over black (or colors of your choosing as of v1.4). The opacity values are 100% opaque, 75%, 50%, 25% and 10% on the top row. The bottom row begins at 85% rather than 100% and continues on as the first.

You would like to pick a color off your screen — you can take a screenshot, paste it in paint, then pick the color off there, but you may not get the exact color of the pixel you click on. And even if you do, you will not be able to know the color in a way that can be transported to another image program.
The best way to find out what color an application or webpage is to use DCPicker.
